Recognised sponsor

Your candidate doesn't have an EU nationality? We can sponsor them.

People without an EU nationality are not automatically allowed to work in the Netherlands. They may need a work and residence permit. Smelt is a recognised sponsor with the IND and, as the employer of your candidate, can apply for the permit through a contractor, payrolling or Employer of Record arrangement.

Why this matters

To employ a highly skilled migrant without an EU nationality, the employer generally needs to be a recognised sponsor with the IND. This can also apply when the candidate already lives in the Netherlands, depending on their current residence permit.

Becoming a recognised sponsor yourself takes time and comes with ongoing obligations. With Smelt as the employer, you do not need your own recognition for this employment arrangement.

What it means for you

A recognised sponsor

Smelt is recognised by the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

Less paperwork

Recognised sponsors can submit applications through the IND sponsor process.

We handle the application

Smelt prepares and submits the residence permit application and stays in touch with the IND.

Compliant from the start

We take care of sponsor obligations, such as keeping records and reporting relevant changes to the IND.

Good to know

Citizens of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland can work in the Netherlands without a work permit. Highly skilled migrants must meet the salary criteria set by the IND. We check the applicable requirements with you during the intake, before anything is signed.
